As the leaves fall and the holiday season approaches, we at Jewelry Creations are reminded of the importance of community, compassion, and giving back. This November, we're proud to continue our annual tradition of supporting Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day. We invite you to help us raise much needed funds, and to join us for a special "Sip and Shop" event on Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day, November 21, where we'll come together to make a difference.
The Raffle: A Symbol of Hope
This year's raffle item is a breathtaking amethyst pendant encircled by a sparkling diamond halo, complete with a delicate chain. Valued at $870, this piece isn't just a beautiful addition to any jewelry collection β itβs a symbol of hope and solidarity with those affected by pancreatic cancer.
- Tickets: $10 for one, $20 for a pack of three
- Purchase: Available in-store or online right here
This event was started, and continues to grow every year, in memoriam, to Kelly Glennon and Kim Cavanaugh's father, John Cavanaugh who lost his own battle with pancreatic cancer in 2010.
All proceeds from the raffle will be donated directly to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, and as always, we will be matching your donations to double the impact.
Why Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Matters
Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer, with a five-year survival rate of just 10%. Early detection is crucial but challenging due to subtle symptoms and lack of early screening methods.
Symptoms to Be Aware Of:
- Abdominal or Back Pain: Persistent discomfort in the stomach area or middle back.
- Unexplained Weight Loss: Sudden weight loss without changes in diet or exercise.
- Jaundice: Yellowing of the skin and eyes.
- Digestive Problems: Loss of appetite, nausea, or changes in stool.
- New-Onset Diabetes: Especially in individuals over 50 without a prior history.
Risk Factors:
- Family History: A genetic predisposition can increase risk.
- Smoking: Smokers are twice as likely to develop pancreatic cancer.
- Chronic Pancreatitis: Long-term inflammation of the pancreas.
- Age: Most common in individuals over 60.
- Obesity: Linked to a higher risk of many cancers, including pancreatic.
Understanding these symptoms and risk factors can lead to earlier diagnosis and better outcomes. We encourage everyone to consult their healthcare provider if they have concerns.
Our Commitment to the Cause
Since beginning this initiative, our community has helped us raise almost $35,000 for pancreatic cancer research - and we expect to surpass that this year thanks to you, our truly amazing community! This year, we're aiming even higher. Every dollar donated brings us one step closer to better detection methods, treatments, and ultimately, a cure.
We can't thank you enough for your continued support. Your generosity not only honors those who have battled pancreatic cancer but also fuels hope for those currently fighting and future generations.
